Eileen C.  Johnson
CHELMSFORD-Eileen Catherine (Bailey) Johnson, age 83, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4th at Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley Nursing Home where she has resided in their Alzheimer's wing for the past 3 years.
Eileen was married to the late Charles (Jigger) Johnson who passed away on April 20, 2010. They were married in 1950 and moved to Chelmsford where they raised their nine children.
Born in Lowell, MA on March 5, 1928, Eileen was the daughter of the late John "Squire" Bailey of Lowell and the late Beatrice (Messier) (Bailey) Chabot of Plaistow NH. After graduating with high honors from Lowell High School in 1945, Eileen was employed as medical secretary to the late Dr. Charles Brennan of Lowell continuing on as personal secretary to his wife after his death in 1970. Eileen later worked as secretary to the Chelmsford Cemetery Commissioner from 1979 until she retired in 2000.
Eileen loved spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren, dabbling in antiques, helping anyone in need, perusing her books, and traveling to the beaches at Wells and Kennebunkport, Maine. Over the years, she especially enjoyed socializing with dear friends at Mt. Pleasant Golf Club.
A parishioner of St. Mary Church in Chelmsford, Eileen was an active member of the Bereavement Committee selflessly offering comfort and support to many who had suffered the loss of their loved ones.
Eileen is survived by her eight children and their spouses: Sandra and Dewitt Taylor of Westford, Judy and Russell Frasier of Manchester NH, Paul Johnson of Pepperell, Timothy and Karen (McNamara) Johnson of Chelmsford, Lyndon and Kandace (Pokraka) Johnson of Pepperell, John Johnson of Chelmsford, Christine and Blair Ely of Chelmsford, Robert and Lynne (Leary) Johnson of Chelmsford and eight cherished grandchildren: Justin, Stephanie, Brittany, Desiree, Travis, Johnny, Kasey and Kendyll and was predeceased by her beloved son, James A. "Jimmy" Johnson, of Chelmsford. She also leaves a brother, Robert Bailey of Tyngsboro, a sister, Jean Newell of Lowell, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The entire Johnson family would like to express their deepest appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley Nursing Home in Billerica, MA for their outstanding care of their mother and for the warmth and love that they have extended to the Johnson family. These professionals selflessly dedicate their lives to the care and comfort of so many people.
Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on Tuesday from 4 until 8pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 1 o'clock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eileen's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472.
