Obituary for Irene Usher
CHELMSFORD - Irene R. (Ramsden) Usher, age 91, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away on April 8, 2011 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Howard R. Usher who died in 1996.
Irene was born in Rhode Island on April 10, 1919, and she was a daughter of the late Walter and Martha (Ekengren) Ramsden. Prior to her retirement, Irene was employed as an Executive Secretary for 20 years at Colonial Gas in Lowell. Earlier in her career she worked for Heinz Electric in Lowell.
She was a member of the Middlesex Women's Club and the Chelmsford Garden Club. She was also an active member of the Central Congregational Church of Chelmsford and served on the board of directors for the Merrimack River Valley House. Irene loved taking trips with her friends from the Red Hat Society.
In her free time she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.
Irene is survived by her niece, Jane Bryant and her husband Gary of Alexandria Bay, NY, and a sister-in-law, Thelma Shaw, also of Alexandria Bay, NY, and several great nieces and nephews. She was the aunt of the late Robert Shaw.
Her visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD on Monday from 4 to 6 pm and on Tuesday from 10 until 11am.
Her Funeral Service will be on Tuesday at 11 o'clock at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Edson Cemetery, Lowell.
