Nicholas P.  Zaher
Nicholas P. Zaher, 85, a resident of Westford since 1956, died on Friday, January 2, 2009. He was the beloved husband of the late Verna M. (Woodworth) Zaher. He was born on January 28, 1923 in Lowell a son of the late George M. and Romia (Halley) Zaher. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theatre and the Middle Eastern Theatre. Prior to his retirement he was self employed as a contractor in Westford. He was a member of the American Legion, the Lions Club of Westford and the Irish American Club. He was a Scout Leader in the 1950's and 1960's and enjoyed working on Chrysler cars. He is survived by two loving children, Terry Hughes of Westford and Donald J. Drew and his wife Donna of Westford, three grandchildren, Deborah Barden of Westford, Sean Hughes of Lowell and Michael Hughes of Brighton and three great grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters, Helen D. Holt of Westford and Evaline McPhillips of Chelmsford, two brothers, Mederick Zaher and his wife Joan of Chelmsford and Charles Zaher and his wife Claudia of Chelmsford, and a nephew, Feryal Kazmeh and Fawaz Abou Sekeh as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Margaret Zaher and Helena Abou Sekeh and four brothers, Michael, John, Lewis and George Zaher. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 44 Bowers St., Lowell. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Westford.
