Obituary for John E. Veiga

LOWELL – John E. Veiga, 92, a lifelong resident of Lowell, passed away on December 11, 2012 at his home in the company of his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Annette (Torcomian) Veiga to whom he has been happily married for 61 years.

He was born in Lowell on May 25, 1920, and was a son of the late Louis E. and Maria E. (Mendonca) Veiga.
A machinist by trade, John worked at Abbott Worsted Mills as a young man, continuing his career with Bemis Brothers Bag Company in Pepperell until his retirement in 1985. He loved the outdoors, enjoying the ocean, camping, and fishing with his family. He was also an avid gardener and for several years raised honey bees. He was an ingenious problem solver and “jack of all trades”. He was a kind and gentle man with a keen sense of humor.

In addition to his loving wife, John is survived by his sons; Robert J. Veiga and his wife Jane M. of Concord, NH, and Tory M. Veiga and his wife Pamela A. of Hollis, NH; 6 grandchildren; Brent, Justin, Kristen, Lindsey, Carly, and Michael Veiga. He also leaves his sister Alice Ritchotte and niece Michelle Ritchotte both of Lowell. He was the brother of the late Rosemary Veiga.

Visiting hours will be on Friday from 9 to 11 am at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. His Funeral Service will begin at 11 o’clock.

Interment in Westlawn II Cemetery in Lowell.
