Obituary for Joyce L. Youngberg (Hilton)

Joyce L. (Hilton) Youngberg of Tyngsboro passed away at Brigham & Women’s Hospital on May 13, 2013.
Mrs. Youngberg was born on November 22, 1946, the daughter of Samuel C. Hilton and the late Phyllis S. Gadsby Hilton. She was a 1964 graduate of East Providence High School, a 1968 graduate of UMASS Dartmouth, and earned her Masters degree at Elmira College in 1992.

Mrs. Youngberg taught elementary education in Fountain Valley, CA, and integrated arts in Tyngsboro, MA, Rome and Utica, NY, and Ayer, MA. She touched thousands of children’s’ lives before retiring from Ayer’s Page-Hilltop school in 2007. That month, Mrs. Youngberg was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Despite this, she embarked on what became a successful six-year second career as a watercolorist, showing and judging in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. She was a member of the Art on Main Gallery in Westford, MA. During this time she continued to travel throughout the US and Europe, finally fulfilling a lifelong dream to cruise through the Panama Canal in 2012.

She is survived by her husband, James W. “Skip” Youngberg; father, Samuel C. Hilton; and daughters, Mrs. Jill Galus and Mrs. Jody Auger; as well as 3 grandsons and a granddaughter.

Visiting hours on Friday from 4 to 8 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. A celebratory memorial service will be held at All Saints’ Church Chelmsford on May 29 at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers please donate art supplies to your local elementary school.
