Obituary for Doris Ann Smith

Doris Ann  Smith
NASHUA, NH – Doris Ann (Braman) Smith, 89, a resident of Nashua, NH, formerly of Washington State, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at The Huntington at Nashua. She was the beloved wife of the late Captain Lloyd Stanford Smith, Jr., USN.

She was born in Buffalo, NY on September 23, 1924 and was a daughter of the late Harold Frederick and Doris (Benedict) Braman. She was a graduate of St. Margaret’s School in Waterbury, CT and Bryn Mawr College in PA. Following college, Doris became a career Naval wife, making homes in nine different states from Maine to Hawaii during the first thirty years of marriage.

She was an avid birder and traveled the world with her husband during retirement to find new "life birds." She was a skillful sewist, needleworker, crocheter, knitter and weaver, and she was an amateur genealogist. She was also a lifelong music lover, playing the piano, viola, and recorder, and sang in a number of choirs and choral societies throughout the U.S.

Doris is survived by her three children, Ann Smith of Longmont, CO, Daniel Smith of Burnsville, MN, and Elizabeth Eisenmann and her husband Norman of Chelmsford; six grandchildren, Melissa Eisenmann of Lowell, Jared Eisenmann and his wife Ashley Marmaro of Reseda, CA, Rebecca Darrow and her husband Tom of Bayport, MN, Madeleine Smith and her fiancé Nick Roell of Prior Lake, MN, Eleanor Mellberg and her husband Matt of Eden Prairie, MN, and Amy Faget of Boulder, CO; 2 great-granddaughters, Abigail and Heidi Eisenmann of Reseda, CA; and five nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Marcia Grosvenor.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 o’clock on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Billerica Rd., Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Doris’ name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472 (www.alzmass.org), or The Nature Conservancy, 4245 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, MA 22203-1606.
