Obituary for
Alice M. O'Toole
CHELMSFORD- Alice M. O’Toole, 101, a longtime resident of Chelmsford passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Palm Center in Chelmsford. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter R. Starbird and the late Thomas B. O’Toole.
She was born in Lawrence on April 20, 1913 a daughter of the late James and Jennie (Sutcliffe) Brown. She was a graduate of Lowell High School and was later employed as an inspector for Raytheon Corporation in Andover.
Alice was a lifetime active member of Matthews Memorial Primitive Methodist Church in Chelmsford where she was part of the choir and often performed solos. She was also a member of the Beacon Lights at her church and a 30 year member of the Chelmsford Senior Choral Group. Alice enjoyed singing and playing the piano, dancing, cooking, knitting and crocheting, crossword puzzles and playing BINGO at Palm Center. She also enjoyed travel, spending many summers in Kirkland, WA with her daughter and son-in-law. While there, she traveled with them and enjoyed the many beautiful sights in California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska. Alice enjoyed her time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Alice is survived by her two children, Robert C. Starbird and his wife Terry of Tyngsboro and Susan R. Knight and her husband Rich of Kirkland, WA; two grandchildren, Dawn DeMeo and her husband Albert of Groton and Shawn Starbird and his wife Tracy of Litchfield, NH and five great grandchildren, Nathan, Sydney and Morgan Starbird and Angelina and Antonio DeMeo and several nephews. She is predeceased by her brother and sister, William Brown and Ruth Cheney.
It being her wish, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 11 o’clock at the Lawrence Street Church, 1199 Lawrence St. Lowell, MA. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Lawrence Street Church or the Chelmsford Senior Center, 75 Groton Rd. Chelmsford, MA 01863.
