Obituary for
George "Colea" Zerbinopoulos
CHELMSFORD – George “Colea” Zerbinopoulos, 83, a longtime resident of Chelmsford passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Lowell General Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Nancy M. (Sheehan) Zerbinopoulos, to whom he was married for 40 years.
He was born in Dover, NH on June 11, 1931 and was a son of the late George and Bertha (Axworthy) Zerbinopoulos. He received his education in Dover schools.
George served in the National Guard during the Korean War.
Prior to his retirement, he was a self-employed carpet mechanic for many years. He had also been employed by National Carpet in Tyngsboro and by Anton’s Cleaners in Tewksbury. Earlier in his career he was a licensed oil burner technician and had worked for the Boston and Maine Railroad.
George was a jack of all trades and a very talented inventor. In his free time he enjoyed watching westerns and spending time in the company of his family, especially his adoring grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his ten children, Linda Hovey and her husband Bruce of Lowell, Sandra Ruchin and her husband Earl of Dracut, Debra Parent and her husband Thomas of Nashua, NH, Donna Peterson and her husband Richard of Lowell, Steven Zerbinopoulos and his wife Linda of Hudson, NH, Richard Zerbinopoulos and his wife Rita of Nashua, NH, Eric Zerbinopoulos and his wife Yeimy of Chelmsford, Nikki Harris and her husband Nicholas of Methuen, and Corina and Kerry, both of Lowell; his brother, Nicholas Zerbinopoulos of South Berwick, ME, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Edith Sheehan and his close brother-in-law, Brian Sheehan and nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Charles Zerbinopoulos, William Zerbinopoulos, Joanne Orr, Bessie Knight, and Helen Devet and the former spouse of the late Ella LaRoche.
Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on Tuesday from 5 until 8 pm. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
