Obituary for Joan Sylvia Edgar (Beairsto)
CHELMSFORD- Joan Sylvia (Beairsto) Edgar, 81, a longtime resident of Chelmsford passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Palm Manor Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of Richard H. Edgar to whom she was married for 55 years.
She was born in Cambridge on September 17, 1933 a daughter of the late Claude and Marion (Nauss) Beairsto. Joan grew up in Belmont and graduated from Belmont High School with the class of 1951. She then went on to complete courses at the Chandler School for Women.
In spite of a handicap from childhood polio, Joan was an active member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Billerica where she was a member of the Vestry and the St. Anne’s Women’s Guild. When her daughter Dale was small she was a den mother for the Brownies. She also enjoyed making figure skating costumes for Dale and then went on to make costumes for a number of other local skaters. Joan was musically talented and enjoyed playing the piano, organ and accordion.
In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by her son, Randal Edgar and his wife Kimberley of East Providence, RI, her daughter, Dale Edgar of Tewksbury, two granddaughters, Sarah and Anna Edgar of East Providence, RI and a brother, Robert Beairsto and his wife Diane of Florida. She is predeceased by her son Richard Edgar who passed away in 1977.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St. CHELMSFORD. Her Funeral Service will follow at 1 o’clock at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 14 Treble Cove Rd. Billerica. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Greater Lowell, 391 Varnum Ave. Lowell, MA 01854.
