Obituary for Margaret E. Adams (Simmons)

CHELMSFORD- Margaret E. (Simmons) Adams, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, died on Thursday, February 19, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late Lincoln Adams.

She was born on September 22, 1917 in Somerville a daughter of the late Fred Walker and Bertha (Knowles) Simmons. She attended Medford Public Schools and was a graduate of the Class of 1936 at Medford High School.

She worked for John Hancock Life Insurance Co., Boston and also at M.I.T., Cambridge. She worked as secretary in United States Army Chemical Warfare Dept. under Col. Seiler and Lt. Seigel. She also worked at the Appleton Bank, Lowell and was a secretary at Simmons Nursing Home in N. Billerica.

Prior to her retirement she worked for the Chelmsford Public Schools as a Teacher’s Aide and Curriculum Coordinator’s Secretary in the Administrative Offices.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Billerica Chapter # 212, a life member of Ye Olde Garrison House, Chelmsford, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Medford Hillside and transferred to the First Congregational Church in Billerica and the Central Congregational Church and their Kiselo Club in Chelmsford. She was the former Majority of the Rainbow for Girls of West Medford, Assembly # 4 and former member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls Mother’s Club of Billerica, Assembly # 61 and recipient of the Grand Cross of Color from Billerica Assembly # 61, Order of Rainbow for Girls.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Jean Rumbaugh and her husband Larry of Nashua, NH, a son, Lincoln C. Adams of Haverhill, MA, two granddaughters, Tricia Rumbaugh of Hollis, NH and Brenda Rumbaugh of Nashua, NH, and brother-in-law Gayle Gilbert, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by, her sisters, Lois Marion Gilbert and Bertha W. Swift and a brother, Donald Francis Simmons, also her sister in-law, Lillian (Koning) Simmons and brother in-law Richard Swift.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 am to 12 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Her Funeral Service will follow at 12 o’clock at the Funeral Home. Interment in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mrs. Adams’ name to the Alzheimer’s Association 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
