Obituary for Kathryn E. Nastasia (Murray)

Loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

CHELMSFORD- Kathryn E. (Murray) Nastasia of Chelmsford and West Yarmouth died on Friday, June 19th surrounded by her loving family. Kathryn was born in Burlington Vermont, the daughter of the late James J. Murray and Sarah (Lynch) Murray. She was married over 50 years to Peter J. Nastasia who died in 2003. She lovingly cared for Peter during his long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Kathryn (Kay) graduated from Somerville High School and McIntosh Business School in Lawrence. Early in her career she worked at Fort Deven’s Prisoner of War Camp as secretary to the camp surgeon. In 1964, after her 4 children were in school she reentered the workforce. She worked at Sears Roebuck and Co. for 26 years, where she met many life-long friends and enjoyed every minute of her work life (and the many Sears parties.)

She will be greatly missed by her four children: David Nastasia (Pam Waggoner) of Georgetown, Karen Frederick (Peter Cicco) of Dracut, Elaine Ziminsky (Phil) of Chelmsford, and Michael Nastasia (Karen) of Nashua, her grandchildren Kara (Nastasia) O’Sullivan, Matthew Frederick, Gregory Frederick, Daniel Frederick, Brian Frederick, Nicholas Ziminsky, Rachael (Ziminsky) Niejadlik, Nathan Ziminsky, Eric Nastasia and Adam Nastasia, her five great-grandchildren, her dear sister Patricia A. Buckley (John) of Chelmsford, many nieces and nephews, and her many dear and cherished friends with whom she shared many good times.

Kay loved the Cape, traveling, dancing, reading, and scrabble (she routinely beat her children and grandchildren.) She was always ready for any new experience, adventure, or trip. Most of all, she loved the time she spent with her cherished family and friends from Sears, the VA, the Cape, and her Senior Center Scrabble and Card-playing friends. Her strength and love of life were apparent to all who met her and she brought laughter and love wherever she went.

Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St. CHELMSFORD. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 o’clock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd. Chelmsford. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kay’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St. Watertown, MA 02472 or the Chelmsford Senior Center, 75 Groton Rd. Chelmsford, MA 01863.
