Obituary for Lloyd Winfield Ridlon

Lloyd died quietly July 28, 2015, while residing at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston, MA. He has resided there since November 2012, the next town over from his son. Prior to this he was a longtime resident, fifty-six years, of Chelmsford, MA.

He was born in Portland, ME and lived in Limerick, ME through high school. He met Ivy, shortly after she emigrated with Abe and Ethel from England, in the first grade and was with her for the next eighty-four years. He wanted to be an aircraft mechanic and graduated from secondary school in southern CA. With the onset of WWII he arrived at Hickam Field, soon after the Japanese, in early 1942 working on aircraft while with the Civil Service. He served his country commencing in January 1944 with the U.S. Army Air Corps (Staff Sargent 42nd Bombing Squadron – Kelley’s Cobras). Later Ivy signed-up (April 1944) with the U.S Navy and was stationed at New London, CT. After they, and their generation, saved the world Ivy and Lloyd were married in 1946. Soon (1947) they were joined by son David. They followed the Air Force base circuit for a time and came to settle in Chelmsford where Lloyd worked at Hanscom AFB. Living with them in Chelmsford during the 1950’s and 1960’s was great. He and Ivy were wonderful parents. When the time came he retired and was joined later by Ivy. By all accounts they were very happy.

In addition to David, Lloyd is survived by daughter-in-law Linda, grandson Brian and granddaughter Carolyn.

Lloyd will be buried in Limerick, ME where he joins Ivy, his parents and his grandparents. They return to where they grew up and are surrounded by many of the people, to include each of their childhood best friends, who were part of all the great memories they passed along in stories about their early years. Truly the end of an era. I cannot thank them enough for everything they did over many years.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 11 o’clock at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford.

Interment will follow that day at 4 pm at Highland Cemetery, Rt. 5, Limerick, ME.

PLEASE OMIT FLOWERS.
