Obituary for Kathleen V O'Connell (Moran)

CHELMSFORD - Kathleen V. “Kay” (Moran) O’Connell, 81, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, formerly of Lowell, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Town & Country Health Care Center in Lowell. She was the beloved wife of William L. O’Connell to whom she has been married for 53 years.

She was born in Lowell on June 26, 1934 and was a daughter of the late James E. and Mary F. (Dockett) Moran.

Kay was raised in Lowell and attended Sacred Heart grammar school and was a graduate of Lowell High School. She grew up attending Sacred Heart parish before moving to the parish of St. Margaret. After high school, Kay worked at the Courier Citizen for a time and later was employed as a keypunch operator at Raytheon Corporation in Lowell, Bedford, and their corporate offices in Lexington. She and Bill enjoyed attending the Raytheon Ski Club events over the years. Kay performed in musicals at the Paint & Powder Club in Lowell. She was an excellent seamstress and made much of her own clothing, which was quite stylish. She enjoyed walking her dog, Dreamer, and dancing at the Dom Polski Polish Club in Lowell. Kay always looked forward to socializing with the staff at the Princeton Station Restaurant and Cutie Nails in Chelmsford.

In addition to her loving husband, Kay is survived by her sister Dorothy (Moran) Toth of Kennebunk, ME and sister-in-law Janice M. Kelly of Juno Beach, FL. She also leaves nieces; Erica E (Toth) Henninger of Fairfax, VT, Patricia (Waterworth) Morasse and her husband Alfred of Lowell, and Martha A. (Waterworth) Sharp and her husband Kevin of Pelham, NH; and nephews; William J. Moran and his wife Susan of Nantucket, Kevin Moran of Okeechobee, FL, Michael E. Moran of Westford, Thomas L. Waterworth, III of Lowell, and Christopher E. Waterworth and his wife Maureen of Dracut and numerous O’Connell family nieces and nephews. She also leaves her devoted, lifelong friend, Patricia (O'Neill) Bedell of Melrose.

Kay was predeceased by her sister Patricia M. (Moran) Waterworth and brothers James E. Moran, Jr. and William F. Moran.

Kay’s family would like to thank the staff at the Town & Country Health Care Center for the care they provided to her.

Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford.
