Obituary for John H. "Jack" Keating

John H. "Jack"  Keating
CHELMSFORD- John H. “Jack” Keating, 83, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, formerly of Lynn, MA passed away Friday, August 28, 2015 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Joan H. (Julien) Keating to whom he was married for 58 years.

He was born in Boston on May 21, 1932, the son of the late John M. and Myrna (Dolan) Keating, and grew up in Lynn. Jack received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Boston College, Class of 1953. For his Masters Degree in Meteorology, he attended both MIT and the University of Chicago. He proudly served his country as Captain in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was a Systems Engineer for MITRE Corporation, Bedford, MA for over 35 years.

Jack was a very involved parent in the Chelmsford Youth Hockey program where he coached both girls and boys hockey for many years. He was a founding member of Chelmsford Girls Youth Hockey and also a Junior Varsity Hockey Coach at Nashoba Valley Technical High School. He served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in North Chelmsford. Recently, Jack was an active member of Friends of the Library in Chelmsford. He and his wife, Joan were avid genealogists and enjoyed several trips to Ireland to study their family tree. During their 58 year marriage they enjoyed many vacations and cruises together.

In addition to his loving wife, Jack is survived by four children, Jean Toellner and her husband Marc of Bow, NH, Kathy Berry and her husband John of Hampstead, NH, John M. Keating and his wife Denise of Derry, NH and Paula Keefe and her husband Brian of Westford, MA. He is adored by his 9 grandchildren, Steven, Greg, Nicole, Megan, Kendra, Kristina, Adam, Hannah and Megan and a great grandson, Wyatt. He also leaves a sister, Mary Muise of Lynn.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, 11:00am at St. Mary’s Church, 25 North Rd. Chelmsford, MA. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the Keating Family at the Radisson Hotel, 10 Independence Dr. Chelmsford, immediately following the Funeral Mass. Jack’s family would love everyone to come. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen St. Second Floor, Framingham, MA 01701.
