Obituary for Thomas E. Ackley

Thomas E.  Ackley
CHELMSFORD - Thomas E. Ackley, 93, of Chelmsford, a former resident of Pleasantville, N.Y, died Friday, October 30, in Bedford at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital. He was the husband of the late Dorothy “Dot” (Kohnken) Ackley who died in 2004.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 15, 1922, a son of the late Joseph S. Ackley and Anastasia (Secor) Ackley.

Tom was a WWII Veteran with two Purple Hearts, who fought in the Battle of the Bulge with the 610th Tank Destroyer Battalion in General Patton's Third Army, as anyone would find out within the first minute of meeting Tom.

Tom retired from the New York Times in 1992 where he worked in the Union as a Stereotypist and moved to Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

He was an avid dancer and enjoyed watching baseball, especially the New York Yankees.

Mr. Ackley is survived by two sons, Wayne T. Ackley and his wife Elizabeth of Stormville, N.Y., and Glenn T. Ackley and his wife Julie of Chelmsford; three grandchildren, Catherine, Sarah and Gregory; a sister Regina Snyder of Long Island, NY; a brother Lawrence Ackley and his wife Joan of Portland, CT; and many nieces and nephews.

His visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on Thursday from 4 until 8 pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 o’clock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association of MA, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
