Albert F. "Albie"  Runge
CHELMSFORD – Albert F. “Albie” Runge, 81, of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Westford House after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Beverly A. (Breen) Runge with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage on November 9th.

He was born in Reading on April 25, 1934 and was a son of the late Carl and Dorothy (Shattuck) Runge.

After graduating from Reading High School, he served in the United States Marines Corps from 1954 until 1958. Albie was a consummate athlete, at various times playing football, basketball and baseball. Excelling at baseball, in 1958 he was signed as a pitcher with the Boston Red Sox. He was also a scout for the Minnesota Twins. Albie was the head coach for the Austin Prep Boys Tennis team for 10 years as well as Assistant Coach in many other sports. He was also a tennis pro at many local clubs. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and an inductee in the Reading Hall of Fame.

In addition to his loving wife, Albie is survived by a daughter Sheryl Runge and her partner Alyssa Abbott of Chelmsford and his grandpuppy, Charlie; brother Russell Runge and his wife Janet of Melrose, and sister Donna Westberg and her husband Richard of Westford and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Carl Runge, Jr, Charles Runge, Beverly Cargill, Shirley Marsh, Lorraine Watkins, Dorothy Overton, and Virginia “Jeane” Belcamino.

Visitation will be on Saturday from 4 to 7 pm at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford with a brief military service at 6:45 pm.

Services and interment will be private.
