Obituary for John I. Hipson

John I.  Hipson
CHELMSFORD- John I. Hipson, 82, a resident of Chelmsford, passed away on Friday April 8, 2016 at Lowell General Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of his teenage sweetheart, Janice E. (Burton) Hipson of Chelmsford, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

Born in Boston MA on July 31, 1933, he was a son of the late Irvin and Mabel (Farrington) Hipson.

John was educated in Boston, MA. Following his graduation from Boston Commerce High School in 1951, John enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1955, John worked in the printed circuit industry in various capacities.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Cheryl Tyrell and her husband Peter of Clinton, CT, Karen Langathianos of Dracut, Cynthia Hipson and her husband Steven Talevi of Clinton, MA; his grandchildren, Melissa Langathianos of Dracut, Kristen Langathianos of Lowell, Lauren Tyrell of Clinton, CT; 2 great grandchildren, Noah and Mia; a sister, Judith Farnworth and her husband John of Fairhaven, MA; and nephews Michael Litchfield, Allan Litchfield, Russell Litchfield, David Farnworth, and Jeffrey Farnworth.

John was a kind and devoted husband and father who loved having his family around him. He was a generous and loving grandfather and great grandfather and will be deeply missed, but forever remembered by his entire family.

John’s passion in life was his unwavering dedicated service to his country. He participated in many holiday parades with his comrades. He was a devoted member of the American Legion, The National League of POW/MIA families, and the Korean War Veterans of Greater Lowell. John has been awarded several medals including The Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service medal. He was active in the Army Reserves for 20 years until his retirement in 1993.

Visitation will be held in the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford on Wednesday April 13, 2016 from 4 until 8 PM.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday morning at 11 AM in the Funeral Home.

Interment with military honors will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
