NORTH CHELMSFORD – Carol A. (Murphy) Scollan, R.N., 89, a longtime resident of North Chelmsford, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Westford House. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Scollan, Sr. who died in 2003.

She was born in Lowell on April 1, 1927 and was a daughter of the late John and Gladys (Holdsworth) Murphy.

Carol was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of 1945 and of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1948. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lowell for several years until deciding to stay home and raise her children. Carol later retired from Marshall’s of Chelmsford after working there for many years.

Carol is survived by her children, Joan M. Barenscheer of Tyngsboro and Edward J. Scollan, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Lowell; two grandchildren; Owen M. Scollan and his wife Dr. Joey Scollan and Bridget A. Scollan; two great-grandchildren, Layla and Brooks; a sister Jean Gaudette of Box Elder, SD; and her many nieces and nephews. Carol was predeceased by her siblings Barbara M. Zemaitis, Francis Murphy, and Robert Murphy, and her son-in-law Oliver Barenscheer.

Carol’s family would like to thank the staff of the Westford House for their dedicated care and friendship over the past 8 years.

Visiting hours Thursday from 3 to 7 pm at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 am at St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, 107 N. Main St., Westford.

Interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
