Obituary for George L Roy

George L  Roy
CHELMSFORD- George L. Roy, 89, of Chelmsford, died peacefully Saturday evening, May 28, 2016 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Denise S. (Goyette) Roy with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.

George was born in Lowell on December 25, 1926. He was the son of the late George A. and Evelyn (Betty) Roy. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1953.

He was educated in Lowell, and was a graduate of Lowell High School class of 1944. George continued his education at Northeastern University where he received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Prior to his retirement, George was employed by GE Wire and Cable in Lowell as an accountant for many years.
George was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Chelmsford.

In his free time he enjoyed trading options and was always spending time on his computer. In his early years, he enjoyed volunteering his time to many different organizations including the former United Fund of Greater Lowell and the St. Johns Men’s Guild. During his time at GE, George was recognized for all his volunteering and was awarded the Gerald Philip Award for distinguished public service. George was also a trustee with St. John’s Medical Center as well as treasurer and trustee of Franco American School for many years. He was an avid reader and loved his dogs.

In addition to his wife Denise, George is survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Jeannette (Bergeron) Roy as well as his three sisters, Theresa A. Kislowski, Isabelle Weir, and Pauline Garland.

It being his wish, visiting hours have been omitted.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 9 o’clock in St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd. Chelmsford.

Burial will be held privately.
