Petros Stergiou, 89, slept in the Lord Tuesday May 31, 2016.

Petros Stergiou was born on January 7, 1927 in Penteli, Attica to Christos and Stamatia Stergiou. After performing his military service, he married Evangelia Bletsis in 1959.

Petros and Evangelia have two children, Christos and Anastasia. After living in Penteli for ten years, the family immigrated to Lowell on August 18, 1969.

He is a member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell where he served in various capacities including president over many years. Exemplifying consistency of character and seeking the best in people, his greatest accomplishment is earning the respect and love of those around him.

Petros is survived by his younger brother Thomas in Greece, his son Christos and his wife Ana Maria, his daughter Anastasia and her husband Christos, and his six grandchildren, Evangelia 30 and her husband Stephen 32, Petros 27, Katerina 24, Nikoletta 22, Spyrydon 22, Evagelia 20, two great grand-daughters, Ana and Zoë, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Petros’ moral compass guided him to always aspire to do the right thing with determination.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 until 8 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11 am at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, 44 Princeton Blvd., Lowell. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment in Westlawn II Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, 44 Princeton Blvd., Lowell.
