CHELMSFORD - Edward P. "Ed" Abely, 74, a resident of Chelmsford for over 55 years, died on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Lowell General Hospital.

He was born in Quincy, MA on September 21, 1941 to the late Edward P. and Helen F. (Smith) Abely.

He was married to Estelle M. (Grondine) Abely for 54 years. He was a Master Pipefitter & Mechanical Contractor for 42 years and owned Edward P. Abely Company, Inc. in Lowell, MA.

In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his two sons, David and Donna Abely of Westford and Allan and Kim Abely of W. Townsend. He also leaves two brothers, Gerry and Janet Abely of Inglis, FL, and Donald and Mary Lou Abely of Exeter, NH, a sister-in-law Cynthia Abely of N. Chelmsford and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother George Abely who died on August 9, 2008.

Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Saturday morning at 10:15 for a procession to Fairview Cemetery on Main St., North Chelmsford for a graveside service.
