Obituary for Emanuel Albert Cote

Emanuel Albert  Cote
Emanuel “Al” Cote Jr., formerly of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully August 28 at the age of 81, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

The oldest son of Emanuel Cote Sr. and Yvonne Sevigny, Al was born in Skowhegan Maine, later moving to Lawrence where he attended high school. Upon graduating he joined the Navy, serving as a signal man aboard the USS Harwich during the Korean Conflict. It was a during his time in the Navy that he met and married the love of his life, Maureen Nelson, with whom he was married for 48 years until her death in 2004.

The parents of five children; Marlene Cote and her partner John Maguire of Chelmsford, Mark Cote and his wife Donna of Lowell, Michael Cote and his wife Sue of Holliston, Alan Cote (who passed away in 2011) and his wife Kelly of Chelmsford, and Matthew Cote and his wife Dawn of Lancaster MA, Al and Maureen also had 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Al worked at the Lawrence Eagle Tribune first as a typesetter then, during the turbulent times of the 60’s, served as a political cartoonist for the paper.
Later in life while working for Honeywell as a Technical Illustrator, Al returned to school, earning a Fine Arts Degree at the Art Institute of Boston.
Al was a talented artist, his favorite being pen and ink seascapes of the coast of Maine. He loved woodworking, furniture building and traveling to Florida.

He is survived by his younger brother Richard Cote and his wife Marie, a step-brother Chris Moreau, and two step-sisters, Janet and Joyce Moreau.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9 o'clock at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Road, Chelmsford. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
