CHELMSFORD- John D. "Don" Coyne, 84, a longtime Chelmsford resident passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday September 11, 2016. He was the loving, significant other to Ellie Lathe with whom he shared the last thirty years of his life.

Born in Cambridge on January 17, 1932, He was the son of the late John P. and Mary M. (McNeil) Coyne.

Don enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves and served his country until his honorable discharge. He went on to have a career as a software engineer for System Development Corporation and then Raytheon Corporation. Golfing was Don's passion. He enjoyed a forty-year membership at Nabnasset Lake Country Club in Westford. Don was a proud member of the Chelmsford Lodge of Elks #2310 where he held a lifetime membership. He also enjoyed coaching youth hockey.

In addition to his other half, Ellie, Don is survived by his children and grandchildren, Patty Coyne and her husband, Donnie Peterson of Chelmsford and their children, Tasha and Tyler Peterson; John Coyne and his wife Erin Sheehan of Atkinson, NH and their daughter, Molly Coyne; Mike Coyne of Chelmsford and his children, Tiffany Love and Samantha & Victoria Coyne; Thomas Coyne and his wife, Elizabeth Coyne of Gardner, MA and their children, Jack and Grace Coyne; a sister, Dorothy DeFoe and her husband, John of Metuchen, NJ; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on September 16th from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. A prayer service will be held at 10:00 am. For those who wish, donations in Don's memory may be made to: The Elks Scholarship Fund, 300 Littleton Rd. Chelmsford, MA 01824
