Obituary for Dennis Paul Wilkins

Dennis Paul Wilkins
Dennis Wilkins
… Loved by All

Dennis P. Wilkins, 61, a resident of Lowell for the past 10 years passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016 after an unexpected long and happy life. Dennis was born in Framingham on June 26, 1954. Born with Down Syndrome, Dennis was blessed with a huge zest for life and happiness. Dennis was the son of Henry and Virginia M. (Trapp) Wilkins, who resided in Chelmsford prior to their passing. At the time of his birth, Dennis was only expected to live until he was 35 years old. He did a lot better than that and did it with a smile.

A former resident of Hidden Way in Chelmsford and part time vacationer at Camp Iroqois, Moultonborough, NH Dennis was an avid sports fan, singer and practical joker. Dennis was also an accomplished runner, winning gold in the 100meters three times at the Massachusetts Special Olympic Games. There was not an event, activity or greeting that Dennis would not want to complete, and complete with a huge hug.

Dennis spent his later years in the wonderful care of MHA, Christine Joslin and the staff at 238 Wilder Street in Lowell, MA. There he was blessed to be surrounded by other special needs men and women with the same love for life. Dennis would spend his casual time listening to “DayDream Believer” or “Pleasant Valley Sunday” by his favorite group, the Monkees or watching any gameshow, especially the “The Price is Right”.

Surviving him are his brother, Douglas of Coto De Caza, CA., his five nephews Conor, Michael, Zachary, Brad and Tristan; his two nieces Mackenzie and Trinity; his two sisters in laws; Andrea and Maria; his special friends Bob and MaryAnn Sullivan, Renee and Travis Johnson, and a host of others; his roommates and staff at Wilder Street and a several aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be joining and hugging his three brothers in heaven; Donald, his twin, of Lowell, (1954-2000), and his younger brothers; David, of Chelmsford (1960-1995) and Daniel, of Moultonborough, NH (1961-2016).

Dennis will be missed.

Visting hours will be held on Thursday, September 29th from 8:30 until 10:30 AM at BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD. His Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM in St. Mary Church, 25 North Road, Chelmsford. Interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dennis' name to the R.A.R.A. 295 High Street, Lowell, MA 01852.
