Obituary for Claire M. Norton
Claire M. Norton, 97, a resident of Chelmsford for more than 50 years, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard P. Norton who died in 2009.
Claire was born in Waltham on June 9, 1919, a daughter of the late Arthur J. and Ellen G. (Barnicle) Robie.
Mrs. Norton was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served during World War II. She loved her family and her work as a secretary in a number of businesses. She never stopped helping others whenever she could. She was active in WAVES National in the Old Ironsides Unit 17.
She was a faithful communicant of St. Mary's Parish. She loved reading, knitting, and traveling, and was quite active in the Chelmsford Senior Center where she was a volunteer and a member of the chorus.
Mrs. Norton is survived by a daughter Sheila F. Norton and her partner Ariane Daniel of Waltham, and sons Paul A. Norton and his wife Maria of Billerica, and Charles E. Norton of Chelmsford, one granddaughter Anna Spector, and many loving nieces and nephews. She also leaves a sister-in-law Elizabeth “Betty” Hulme and her husband H. Donnell Hulme of Hastings Nebraska. She was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor (Cahill) O'Farrell of South Dennis, MA.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, from 4-8 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. Interment in Bourne National Cemetery will be private. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to VNA of Middlesex-East Hospice at 670 North Ave., Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
