Obituary for Dwight M Hayward

CHELMSFORD- Dwight M. Hayward, 76, a resident of Chelmsford for nearly 50 years, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 10, 2016 after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Cynthia (Wheaton) Hayward for over 53 years.

Dwight was born in Montpelier, VT on July 20, 1940, the son of the late Lhoyd and Marian (Travis) Hayward. He was preceded in death by his stepmother Lena (Shaw) Hayward and his sister Barbara Lynch and her husband Richard.

He was a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Tuck School of Business. Dwight worked his entire career as a CPA before retiring from PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2006. He also was a U.S. Army veteran.

Dwight served as a member of the Town of Chelmsford Finance Committee from 1983 until 2011; and was the chairman from 1987 until 1995. In addition, he was a Town Meeting Representative in Chelmsford. Dwight also served as the president of the Sea Tern Association in Moody Beach, ME for many years.

In addition to his loving wife, Dwight is survived by his children, William Hayward and his wife Lauren of Londonderry, NH and Jill Wagner and her husband William of North Chelmsford; his grandchildren Justin, Madison and Jessica; a sister, Elizabeth Batchelder and her husband William of Plymouth, NH; his granddogs, Shade and Violet as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 16 from 4-7 pm in the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St. Chelmsford.

His memorial service and burial will be held in his home state of Vermont in the spring.
