Obituary for Jean Ann Barbas (Riexinger)

Jean Ann Barbas (Riexinger)
Jean Ann (Riexinger) Barbas, a resident of Chelmsford since 1965, passed away peacefully in her home with her family at her side. She was eighty six years old. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard E. Barbas to whom she was married sixty three years at the time of his passing in 2013.

Jean was born and raised in Tonawanda, New York, the daughter of the late Christian and Lucy (Kohler) Riexinger. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Barbas in 1950 and together they settled for a time in New York before moving to Chelmsford in 1965. Jean and Richard proudly raised her five children in their Chelmsford home which Jean and her family still kept. Jean was a long time communicant of St. Mary's Church. In their younger days, Jean and her husband enjoyed nights out bowling at Alpine Lanes. A passionate fan of all New England sports, she rarely missed a Bruins, Red Sox or Celtics game. More than anything, Jean will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Sadly, Jean was predeceased by her husband of sixty three years, Richard E. Barbas.

She is survived by her five children, Susan Barbas Dermody of Berkley, MA, Michael Barbas and his wife Jerilyn of Clinton, Carol Barbas West and her spouse Gary of Gardiner, NY, Steven Barbas and his spouse James Westen of Sudbury and Barbara Barbas of Chelmsford. She was the cherished grandmother of Jameson, Amanda, Danica, Macayla, Adam, Tyler and Alexander, and great-grandmother of Jakob, Madison, Riley, Kayleigh and Julian.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 11 o'clock in St. Mary Parish, 25 North Road, Chelmsford. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. At Jean's request there are no calling hours.
