Obituary for George L Lucente

George L Lucente
George L. Lucente, a resident of Chelmsford, formerly of Brockton and Arlington, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 2nd. He was eighty-six years old. He was the beloved husband of Janet (Curran) Lucente to whom he was married for over fifty years.

George was born in Cambridge, son of the late Santo and Adeline (Scioli) Lucente. He was raised in Cambridge and was a graduate of Rindge Technical High School in Cambridge. After graduation, George worked as a manager at a meat market in Boston's North End before enlisting in the United States Army to serve honorably in Korea. George was stationed for a time in Japan as a military policeman before deploying in Korea. George's natural leadership abilities and take-charge attitude earned him the position of leader of his mortar squad.

Upon returning home, George met his soon to be wife, Janet, through friends at work in Arlington. They were married in 1966 and raised their children in Brockton. George, who had a passion for all things culinary, owned and operated the George Lucente Meat Company for many years. While his wholesale business thrived, George was truly at home working in his retail meat market where he could interact with people. He had a way with words and truly enjoyed talking with anyone and everyone.

George and his wife moved to Lehigh Acres, outside of Fort Meyers, Florida, before returning to Chelmsford where they have resided for the last twenty years. Upon retirement, George enjoyed working for Whole Foods Supermarket as a meat cutter. It offered him the opportunity to return to retail, where he could continue to work with customers. George was a fervent sports fan, enjoying the many victories of the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots in his lifetime. More than anything, George loved his family who will remember him as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Janet, George is survived by his four children, Yvonne Hart and her husband David of Michigan, Clare Jeannotte and her husband Brian of Chelmsford, Janet O'Donnell and her husband Skip of Bridgewater and Geoffrey Lucente and his wife Katie of Chelmsford. He was the loving grandfather of Jonathan, Matthew, Alyssa, Emily, Karen, Cristen, Meghan, Sean and Sophia, as well as four wonderful great-grandchildren, and many loved nieces and nephews. George also leaves his brothers, John Lucente and his wife Sondra of Lexington and Richard Lucente and his wife Donna of West Newton. He was predeceased by his brother Frank Lucente and Sister Rose Marie Lucente, OSF.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday, April 6th from 4:00-7:00pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street Chelmsford.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 7th at 11:00am in St. Mary Church, 25 North Road Chelmsford. Kindly meet at the church.

Burial will follow in Heart Pond Cemetery in Chelmsford.

Memorial contributions in remembrance of George can be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
