Obituary for Helen P Eliopoulos

Helen P. Eliopoulos of Chelmsford, member of a well-known and eminent Lowell and Chelmsford family, passed away unexpectedly at the Lowell General Hospital on April 14th.

The recipient of a dental certificate from a well-known Boston school, she was for twenty years a dental assistant for Dr. Arthur Vurgaropoulos in Lowell, and for fifteen years a dental assistant for Dr. Charles McGowan and Dr. Robert Moynihan, also in Lowell. More recently, she was for a number of years an assistant in the oral surgery practice of Dr. Jeffrey Stone in Lowell and Chelmsford. She often made it known to family and friends how much she enjoyed working in each of these practices and how much she respected the doctors that employed her.

Helen was the daughter of the late Peter and Diamando Eliopoulos of Lowell and Chelmsford. She is survived by three beloved brothers, Daniel P. Eliopoulos of Lowell, George P. Eliopoulos of Chelmsford and his fiancee Ellen Simorellis and John P. Eliopoulos and his wife Betty of Swampscott; four beloved sisters, Despena Zouzas and her husband Samuel of Chelmsford, Regina Dabilis and her husband Arthur of Chelmsford and Christine and Ethel Eliopoulos of Chelmsford. Additionally, she is survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Antoinette Eliopoulos, also of Chelmsford.

Helen was predeceased by two deeply loved brothers, Angelo P. Eliopoulos and Michael P. Eliopoulos, three deeply loved sisters Evelyn Georgenes, Stella P. Kokinacis and Sylvia P. Eliopoulos, and by two beloved brothers-in-law, Harry S. Kokinacis and Charles Georgenes, and by two beloved sisters-in-law, Rosemary (Cox) Eliopoulos of Lowell and Olga (Gamelis) Eliopoulos of Westford.

For many years, Helen enjoyed spending long summers with her sisters and other family at her beautiful summer home in Ogunquit, Maine, and in frequent socializing with her extensive circle of friends, to whom she was unconditionally devoted. Always affable and cheerful, she was supremely gregarious, showing an admirable ability to endear herself not only to family members but also to total strangers who always remembered her with fondness in later encounters as the years passed. In many ways, Helen was a one-of-a-kind person who was totally devoted to family, friends and casual acquaintances alike. She made her own mark in life, distinguishing herself as a woman with great and abiding affection for others.

She had a profound and unswerving love for her immediate family and for her many, many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews, as well as for her various brothers and sisters-in-law, all of whom she spoke of with great pride and affection. They will never forget her as the years pass, for sure.

Totally devoted to her church, The Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell, she was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society of Transfiguration, a charitable women's organization, as well as being a member of the Hellenic Cultural Club and various other Greek Orthodox organizations.

Unquestionably, Helen will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her, even as a casual acquaintance.

"No matter what anybody says about grief and about time healing all wounds, the truth is there are certain sorrows that never fade away until the heart stops beating and the last breath is taken" Helen, dear heart, we will NEVER forget you. You will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved you. May your memory be ever eternal.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, April 19th at 10:00am in The Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Fr. John Sarantos Way, Lowell.

A funeral service will follow at 11:00am.

Interment in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Transfiguration Gk. Orthodox Church Kitchen and Hall Fund, Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 John Sarantos Way, Lowell, MA 01854.
