Obituary for Dominic M Leone Sr.

Dominic M Leone Sr.
CHELMSFORD- Dominic M. Leone, Sr., 87, a 55 year resident of Chelmsford, passed away on Sunday June 18, 2017 at his home following a period of declining health. He was the loving husband of Marcelle (Cucurull) Leone of Chelmsford.

Born in Cambridge, MA on June 21, 1929, he was a son of the late Antonio and Natalie Marion (Gidari) Leone of Italy.

Dominic proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1948. He was educated in Watertown, MA and received a BS from Rivier College in NH. Employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as a professional engineer for over 30 years, Dom was the Chief of Airways Facilities and managed the operation and repair of all electronic navigational aids in use by airports to control air traffic in Maine, NH, MA and Conn, from his office at Logan Airport. He was instrumental in the cross-over to computer systems to control air traffic in the 70’s. After retirement he founded Axcess Systems, a software firm specializing in software development and system integration, which contracted with Massport. After that Dom became a restaurant entrepreneur and worked with his sons to own and manage restaurants in Lawrence, Waltham and finally, the Gang Plank, in Fall River MA. He began scuba diving in the 1950’s and he was an instructor for many years at the YMCA. Dominic also enjoyed hunting and boating. He was always very handy and mechanically inclined and he possessed an insatiable curiosity that led him into many side ventures such as Dom’s TV Repair, and hobbies such as leather crafting and jewelry making and using his welding skills to make artistic renditions. As a sort of renaissance man, his work-bench at his home was always covered with repair projects involving electronics and mechanics. Neighbors and friends will remember a man that could build you a computer, fix your outboard motor or help you tune your car. He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Anthony Leone of Cairo, Egypt, Richard Leone and his wife, Kimberly, and William Leone all of Nantucket; seven grandchildren, Christina, Dominic, Elizabeth, Zackary, Alexander, Casaundra, and Mercedes; three great grandchildren, Jrue, Sophie and Sadie; a brother, Salvatore Leone and his wife, Carol Ann of VA; and a sister, Marion Leone of FL. He was predeceased by his son Dominic M. Leone, Jr. in 2001.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Sunday June 25, 2017 from 2 until 5 PM in the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM in St. Mary Church, 25 North Road, Chelmsford.

KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH.

His Interment will follow at 1 PM in St. Patrick Cemetery, 999 Belmont Street, Watertown, MA 02472.

For those who wish, a donation in loving memory of Dominic may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation at www.pdf.org.
