Obituary for Ruth Eleanor Osberg (Olive)

Ruth Eleanor Osberg (Olive)
CHELMSFORD - Ruth Eleanor (Olive) Osberg, 94, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 25, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Norman L. Osberg who died in 2007.

She was born in Quincy on January 6, 1923 and was a daughter of the late Arthur W. and Bertha (Dillon) Olive.

She grew up in the Wollaston section of Quincy where she received her education. She worked at the ISO before marrying her beloved Norman in 1944. The Osbergs lived in Maryland during the war before returning to Massachusetts, eventually settling in Chelmsford in 1958 where they raised their two sons. Ruth was a longtime member of the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church of Chelmsford where she was an active member of the Women's Alliance. There, she worked on various fund-raising activities like the annual May Breakfast for which she also made May Baskets for over fifty years.

She was a warm loving person who expressed her love and affection more often through actions than words, especially while hosting family gatherings at the holidays. Ruth also enjoyed gardening, bird watching, crossword puzzles, music, knitting afghans and watching the Celtics. More than anything, Ruth loved her family and the time they spent together.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Richard E. Osberg and his wife Dibbie of Weare, NH, and Charles G. Osberg of Chelmsford; daughter-in-law Kathy Leclerc and her husband Phil; three grandchildren, Richard Osberg, Jr, Britta Osberg and her partner Kenneth Bean, and Jenna Osberg and her partner Steven Cristaldi, and her great-granddaughter Payton Leigh Bean.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 6 to 8 PM at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford.

Her Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday, June 29th at 10 o'clock at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, 2 Westford St., Chelmsford.

Internment in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Lowell Humane Society, 951 Broadway St. Lowell, MA 01854 or the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, 2 Westford St., Chelmsford 01824.
