Shirley E  Colmer (Colmer)
CHELMSFORD - Shirley Elizabeth Colmer, 86, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, and summer resident of Saco, ME, passed away on June 28, 2017 after a long battle with kidney disease. Born in Lowell on April 29, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Gertrude L. (Wilson) Colmer.

Shirley was a 1948 graduate of Chelmsford High School and went on to study at Lesley College, graduating in 1950. She taught kindergarten for several years at the Bancroft School in Worcester before returning home to teach at the Belvidere School until its closing. Shirley then became the Office Manager and Bookkeeper at the Lowell Cemetery, retiring from there in 1997. She was also the Treasurer of the former Merrimack River Valley House for many years and served on their Board of Trustees.

She was a lifelong, active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lowell, belonging to their women’s group, singing in the choir and serving on the Vestry as Senior Warden, Treasurer and Vestrymember as well as many other clubs and committees. Shirley was also a member of the former Paint and Powder Club, the Lowell Garden Club, the Lowell General Hospital Auxiliary and volunteer group, and a boardmember of the Children’s Home of Lowell.

Shirley is survived by her niece Leslie (Colmer) Estrella and her husband Jeffrey, grandnephew William J. Estrella, and her sister-in-law Carol Colmer, all of Tewksbury. She is also survived by several cousins and many friends. She was the sister of the late William W. Colmer.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 5th from 4 to 7PM at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford.

Her Funeral Service will be on Thursday, July 6th at 10 o'clock in St. John's Episcopal Church, 260 Gorham St., Lowell. KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH.

Interment in Lowell Cemetery, Lowell.
