M. Nancy (Hansberry) Gately, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at the age of 78. She was the beloved wife of the late Philip J. Gately who died in 2015.

She was born in Newton, MA on September 22, 1938 during the great hurricane and was a daughter of the late Frederick and Maryellen (Nilan) Hansberry.

Nancy grew up in Wellesley and was a graduate of Wellesley High School. She met her beloved husband Philip who took her to her high school prom. They were married in 1960 and settled in Natick for a time before moving to Chelmsford. Nancy was a passionate lifelong Red Sox fan. She enjoyed a game of Bingo or cards and also enjoyed bowling. More than anything, Nancy enjoyed time with her family.

Nancy is lovingly survived by her children Pamela McClure and her husband Robert of St. Marys, Georgia, Kathleen Shartzer and her husband Jeffrey of Bedford, NH, Nancy Hauman and her husband Kirk of Tyngsboro and Jennifer Wetmore and her husband Joe of Hudson, NH She was the treasured grandmother of ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Nancy also leaves a brother Frederick Hansberry of Tewksbury and a sister Joan DeFazio of Milford.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday, July 7th from 4:00-8:00pm in the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME 24 Worthen Street CHELMSFORD.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 8th at 11:00am in St. Mary Church 25 North Road Chelmsford. Interment will be private.
