CHELMSFORD - Charles E. Watt, Jr., 87, a lifelong resident of Chelmsford, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the E. N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. Charles was the husband of Jean (Mahoney). They were married in 1954 and raised 3 children.

Charles was born in Lowell on January 5, 1930 and was a son of the late Charles E. and Lois M. (Braden) Watt, Sr. Charles was a graduate of Chelmsford High School class of 1947. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Lowell Textile Institute in 1952. After graduation, Charles went into the US Navy Reserve and served during the Korean War as the youngest officer in the Navy. He was also a member of the Navy Band.

Charles started his career working at Raytheon where he was an engineer who was credited with many patents. He continued his career with Craigs Systems and then AVCO. Prior to his retirement, he spent many years as the Business and Facilities Manager for the Chelmsford Public Schools.

Charles was an accomplished trumpet player and enjoyed ballroom dancing. He played in several performing "big bands". He had a passion for airplanes. Charles loved the outdoors and enjoyed skiing, hiking, fishing, sailing and spending time at his cottage in Harpswell, ME.

In retirement, he owned and managed several commercial properties. He enjoyed traveling and loved wintering in Florida.

Charles is survived by his three children; Charles E. Watt, III and his wife Deirdre of Oregon, William Watt and his wife Kim of Chelmsford, and Sara Higgins of Pepperell; eight grandchildren; Nicholas, Brady, Nathan, Ashley, Robert, Beth, Tyler, and Jake; three great-grandchildren, Will, Theo and Zach. He also leaves his sister Marilyn Dana of Chelmsford and his longtime companion Dorothy Boudreau.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home for visitation from 9:00 to 10:00 am on Friday, August 11th followed by a Funeral Home Service on beginning at 10 o'clock.

Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the E. N. Rogers VA Hospital GRECC Unit, Bldg. 62, 200 Springs Road Bedford, MA 01730.
