Condolences

Condolence From: Bill (Wei) Hung
Condolence: Dr. Ott was my Master’s thesis advisor at UMass Lowell in the mid 90s. His energy, kindness, fairness and approaches to everything in our daily activities had profound impacts on what I have become and how I treat people and my loved ones. His analytical and engineering minds have been instrumental in my professional career as an environmental engineer. Rebecca (my wife), Christine (my older daughter) and I were very fortunate to meet Ann and his children and some of their grandchildren for the first time on Christmas Day of 1993...I recall most of them were in diapers :/. Now living and working in the west coast of Canada and not too far away from where Dr. Ott was born, I constantly reminded my family how we were welcomed by Dr. Ott and Ann in the summer of 1996 when I returned to Umass Lowell for my PhD (yet I later moved to Canada to pursue an engineering career and never completed my PhD)... Rebecca, Christine and I lived at their Groton place for about a month, where we admired the home crafted with love and wisdom by the Otts and tried to picture how Dr. Ott cleared snow on their ¼ mile long gravel driveway using a 1960s backhoe. Dr. Ott, it has been a privilege to know you and having you as a role model in my life.

Condolence From: Bob Gingras
Condolence: Dr. Ott was instrumental in helping me to achieve what I have in my career. I often think of the days we spent in the lab at Lowell Tech in the late 70's and of his support to me since over the past 40 years. He was a man I was privileged to know and will never forget.
