Obituary for Frederick H Whitton Jr.

Frederick H Whitton Jr.
Frederick H. Whitton Jr. a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully October 10, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. He was 94 years of age. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Winn) Whitton to whom he was married 72 years.

Fred was born in 1922 in Westford, son of the late Frederick H. Whitton Sr. and Eva (Mountain) Whitton. He was raised in Chelmsford and attended local schools before leaving to serve in the U.S. Army in World War II. After meeting through some mutual friends, Fred married his beloved Dorothy in 1945 and they settled in Lowell. In 1967 the Whittons moved to Chelmsford where they would continue to raise their growing family. For many years Fred was the proprietor of the F and H Oil Company of Lowell.

Fred enjoyed many camping trips with his family throughout the White Mountains. Many memories were made in Hampton as well on Cape Cod where Fred and his family enjoyed a home in Brewster for the last 33 years. He always enjoyed a Sunday drive with his family and particularly took pleasure in the time spent in his garden. For many years, Fred grew and tended to a large vegetable garden, a passion he maintained right up into his latest years. More than anything, Fred enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

In addition to his wife Dorothy, Fred is lovingly survived by his children, Dr. Nancy Whitton of Lowell and Brewster, Sharon Lane and her husband Warren of Avon, Frederick H. Whitton III and his wife Marie of Haverhill and Marygail Peterson and her husband Richard of Chelmsford. He was the loving grandfather of Kimberly, Kristen, Matthew, Jennifer, Gregory, Erik, Molly, Rick and Connor; great-grandfather of Katelynn and John and great-great-grandfather of Kinsley. Fred also leaves a sister, Barbara Sullivan of Lowell as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Whitton and his sister Mildred Zabierek.

Relatives and friends are invited to an hour of visitation on Friday, October 13 from 10-11am followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00am in the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME 24 Worthen Street Chelmsford.

Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery Chelmsford.
