Apostolos K. Kazanis Obituary (1952

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Apostolos K. Kazanis, age 73, of Chelmsford, MA who departed peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Apostolos, who was affectionately known as Laki, was born and raised in Athens, Greece, and was the son of the late Konstantinos and Sapfo (Mavropoulos) Kazanis. He immigrated to the United States in 1977 and had lived in Norwood, MA, before moving to Chelmsford. Many remember him in his early years as the Maitre D' at the 57 Restaurant in Boston. Since then, Laki held various occupations and retired from BTU as a master pipe fitter. When Laki wasn't working, he loved to tinker and was always working on a project: from home renovations and fixing cars to building furniture and a go-kart; he always kept busy, but he was never too busy for his family and friends. He would often be found cheering on his grandchildren at a field, arena, or competition. Laki was a generous person who loved to help everyone and was there for anyone that needed him. He was always the first to lend a helping hand, whether repairing something at his beloved church or at his grandchildren's school where everyone from teachers to students knew him as "Pappou Laki". A gifted cook, he delighted in preparing meals that brought his family together around the table. He found joy in music, often singing and dancing to his favorite Greek songs, filling every gathering with warmth and laughter. Laki was a beloved husband, devoted father and grandfather, cherished brother and uncle, and loyal friend. He will be remembered not only for his talents, but for the love and light he brought into every life he touched. Apostolos Kazanis is survived by his loving wife, Maria G. (Stefanakis) Kazanis, with whom he enjoyed 26 years of marriage; his children, Lillian Kazanis of Falmouth, MA, Yianni Iliadis and his wife Tanya of Chelmsford, MA, and their children, Maria and Zacharias, and Annika Iliadis and her husband, Peter Herman of Barnstable, MA and their children, Alex and Annya, as well as his brother, Panangiotis Kazanis and his wife, Aikaterini Drosou of Annavyssos, Greece, and his nephew Konstandinos Kazanis and his wife Anastasia of Tewksbury, MA and their children, Evanthia, Kallisti, Thales, and Nefeli. He will also be missed by many loving relatives and life-long friends. Apostolos was predeceased by his uncle George Mavropoulos (2006), his cousins Vassilios Doulos (2003), and Demetrios Kazanis (2007), and his sister-in-law Suzanna Kazanis (2010) Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 4 pm - 7 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., Lowell at 10 am. Interment to follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
