Catherine S. Lee Obituary (1928 - 2013)

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and wife. Catherine Lee peacefully passed away on February 12, 2013 at Sutton Hill Center in North Andover, MA. She was 84. Catherine was born in China on April 20, 1928. She was the third of six children, and the only daughter, of the late General Samuel S. Wu and Mrs. Xi Lin Wu. She moved to Taiwan with her family in 1949. A graduate of National Taiwan Normal University, Catherine taught at Taipei Municipal Zhong Shan Girls High School, Taipei Language Institute, and Taipei American School until she moved to Columbus, OH in 1966. Catherine married the late Shuh-Chai Lee in 1967. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a MA in Chinese Literature in 1971. A long-time resident of Columbus, Catherine moved to Tewksbury, MA in 2004. Catherine was a teacher by profession for most of her life and was beloved by her numerous students. Catherine was also actively involved in her church, especially ministering to women. And she always enjoyed playing Mah-Jong with her friends and family. Catherine had a great love for music, and the Lord gifted her with a beautiful singing voice. She served Him with this gift by singing in church choirs and as a soloist on many occasions. Her final public solo, singing one of her favorite hymns His Eye is On the Sparrow, was at East Nanjing Road Christian Church in Taipei, Taiwan in October 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ghg9cpi8fYM&feature=youtu.be. Catherine is survived by her children: Lillian Teng and her husband Andy of CA, Bob Chen and his wife Jenny of MA, and Hoover Lee and his wife Karen of KY. She is also survived by three of her brothers, Sing-Gui Wu and his wife Yu-Ling of China, Sing-Chou Wu and his wife Ellen of CA, and James Wu and his wife Yvonne of CA, along with many nieces, nephews, and six grandchildren Mollie, Eleasa and her husband David, Teddy, Maggie, Joy, and Micaiah. A memorial service was held on Saturday February 23 starting at 10:30am at the Chinese Bible Church of Greater Lowell, 197 Littleton Rd, Chelmsford, MA. A box lunch was provided after the service to share a simple meal from Catherines favorite restaurant. Visitation was held the same day from 1-3pm at Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford, MA. Catherine will be buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Columbus in a private ceremony.
