Claire M. Doherty Obituary (1939

Claire M. (Lincourt) Doherty, 84, a resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at The Residences at Freeman Lake, N. Chelmsford. She was the devoted wife of Neil F. Doherty with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. She was born in Lynn, MA on December 22, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Omer and Loretta (Roy) Lincourt and was raised and educated in Lynn. She attended Emmanuel college in Boston until her marriage in 1959. In 1964, as a young mother, Claire moved to Kwajalein, Marshall Islands with her husband. They spent nearly eight years in the South Pacific where she also gave birth to her second child. The active community and tropical climate enabled her to master water skiing, tennis, cooking and hosting social events. She truly cherished the lifelong friends made during those years and enjoyed continued gatherings and social events with them throughout her life. She moved to Chelmsford in 1974 and continued raising her three children while also earning a degree in laboratory technology in 1979 from Middlesex Community College. She then worked as a laboratory technician at Saint Josephs hospital in Lowell (now Saints Memorial) until her retirement in 1996. She truly loved the science of her work and the satisfaction of interacting with patients and coworkers. After her retirement she continued to travel, enjoying multiple trips to California, Hawaii, and Europe. Claire was energetic and artistic, and it showed in her love of ballroom dancing, singing, gardening, cooking and seasonal decorating. The neatly cropped gardens around her home were evidence of her fastidious nature, green thumb, and no-nonsense willingness to pick up a shovel or mow the lawn. She was a skilled cook and enjoyed hosting family holiday gatherings with her children and grandchildren. She stayed very active throughout her life, and later as a year-round runner, logging several miles per day until she was nearly 80. As a member of St Marys parish and devout Catholic, she enjoyed singing in the choir, greeting Sunday parishioners, and volunteering. In addition to her husband, Claire leaves her children, Lisa and (David) Ludwig, of Maynard, MA, Mark and (Laura) Doherty of Westford MA, Christina Doherty and (Eric London) of Monterey CA; her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Ludwig, Michael Ludwig, Evan Doherty, Sean Doherty, and Isabel Doherty; her brother Richard and (Margaret) Lincourt of Little Rock, AR, and several nieces and nephew. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Lincourt. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 4 7 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 26 at 9:00 am at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. KINDLY GATHER AT THE CHURCH.
