Beloved mother, sister, cousin, niece, aunt and friend Courtney Helen (Quinn) Ahearn, 47, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston after a short but fierce battle with cancer surrounded by loving family and friends.
Courtney was born in Lowell on February 13, 1978, to the late Thomas J. and Denise M. (Matte) Quinn, just days after the historic blizzard passed through. Courtney was sweet, kind, and quiet as a child, always the first to lend a hand or be a friend when someone needed it. She loved to help out in their backyard vegetable garden, ride her bike around the neighborhood, but most of all her favorite pastime was reading, just like her mom and dad. As she grew, so did her hobbies, including piano, competitive swimming, and caring for her many animals. She was always reliable, consistent, and happy to help.
Courtney was known for her joyful nature, quick wit, and caring heart into adulthood. She enjoyed simple pleasures like cooking, visiting the beach, flying a kite, and making memories with her family during game nights, apple picking and cookouts. She didn’t take life too seriously, and injected fun wherever she could, like indulging her love of dinosaurs, breaking out her signature dance moves, or making elaborate costumes and art projects just for the fun of it.
Courtney took great pride in caring for her patients as an Ultrasound Technician at various hospitals. She prioritized people’s comfort and safety as they navigated some of life’s greatest challenges, and she loved sharing her knowledge. She diligently maintained a positive spirit in her work life, which could be seen not only in her professional accolades but through the deep friendships she built with her colleagues. Most recently, she was passionate about pivoting to the role of patient and transparently sharing the struggles, wins, and everything in between of her own medical journey. She hoped that by bravely sharing her experience battling triple negative breast cancer, she could encourage others to keep the faith, find their own healing community, and remind them they are not alone.
Undoubtedly, Courtney’s most beloved role in life was as a mother. She was the devoted parent of Elodie “Ellie” and Avery. As a young mom she helped pass on her own love of reading, learning, and curiosity. She cheered the kids on through sports, school projects, and the challenges of young adulthood. Courtney was blessed with two bonus kids, Michaela and Keisha, and she proved that a mother’s love has no bounds, rules, or exceptions. She loved them both as her own and proudly watched as they grew into incredible adults.
Despite her health challenges, Courtney, much like her parents, remained a kind and caring woman at her core, whose thoughtfulness and gestures knew no bounds, and persisted right to the end - she thanked each and every doctor, nurse, and aid she encountered in her final days with tears of gratitude and appreciation. She was equally funny as she was kind, with a quick wit and sharp tongue that kept everyone on their toes. She laughed her way through experiences that would make the toughest among us fall. Her strength, courage, joy, and love will be missed by so many.
Courtney leaves behind her children Elodie “Ellie” and Avery Ahearn of Lowell, MA, Michaela Mentzer of Billerica, MA, and Keisha Enagbare of Lowell, MA, and her sister, Catherine “Kate” Quinn of Lowell, MA. She also leaves her cherished cousins, aunts, uncles, and other relatives and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to The Ellie Fund, a MA organization providing essential support services for breast cancer patients to ease the stresses of everyday life, allowing the focus to be on family, recovery and healing.
Relatives and friends may attend her Memorial Visitation on Friday, November 7th, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home at 24 Worthen St, Chelmsford. A small service will take place in the funeral home with close friends and family on Saturday, November 8th from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm.
