Donald Leon 'Joe' Longtin Obituary (1929 - 2012)

CHELMSFORD-Donald L. Joe Longtin, 83, a long time resident of Chelmsford, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Lowell General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Longtin was the husband for 47 years of the late Elvira V. Vera (Cafetera) Longtin, who passed away January 8, 2011. Donald was born in Lowell, MA, on April 21, 1929 and was the son of the late Leo A. and Sylvia (Brunelle) Longtin. He attended Lowell Public Schools and the former Lowell Technological Institute, and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Donald was a member of the VFW, the Elks Club of Greater Lowell, and Club Passe-Temps in Lowell. Donald was retired from St. Johns Hospital, Lowell, and was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelmsford. Donald enjoyed playing golf with his neighbors and he was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Donald is survived by a step-son, John Flory and his wife Maureen of Cocoa Beach, FL, a brother Norman Longtin and his wife Jeanne of Methuen, MA and FL, step-daughter-in-law Sharon Flory of Hudson, FL, two step-grandchildren Steven and Gail Flory of Hudson, FL, and many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his step-son Albert Peter Flory, his sister Doris, and his brother Francis. Donald enjoyed the company of his neighbors and greatly appreciated their help with daily and weekly chores as he gradually succumbed to the effects of inoperable cancer. I want to especially thank Donalds neighbors and friends of Acton Road, the Fournier Family, the Chelmsford Visiting Angels, and the Mill City Medical Group, especially Dr. Pickul and Dr. Chemaly for making Donalds last days as comfortable as possible. Donald would want everyone who cared for him in his final days to know that he did it his way! Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 am at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice.
