Dr. George P. Meltsakos Obituary (1957

Dr. George P. Meltsakos, aged 66, of Andover, Massachusetts, peacefully departed this world on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Lawrence General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Ritsa (Bakelas) Meltsakos, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage. Dr. Meltsakos was born on August 18, 1957, in Agios Kosmas, Grevena, Greece, to Chrisoula (Tolios) Meltsakos and the late Panagiotis Meltsakos. He embarked on his educational journey by graduating from Haverhill High School in 1974. He later attended Merrimack College before transferring to the Aristotelian University School of Medicine in Thessaloniki, Greece, from which he proudly obtained his Medical Degree in 1982. His medical career began as a surgical assistant and clinical research fellow at Boston University Medical Center in Brookline, Massachusetts and continued during his medical residency at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, before establishing his Primary Care and Internal Medicine practice in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1990. While tending to his private practice, Dr. Meltsakos served as the Medical Director of Blaire House Nursing Home in Tewksbury, Massachusetts for many years. He was closely affiliated with and served as the Chief of Medicine at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell, Massachusetts where he also served as a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of Medical Affairs. In more recent years, he served on the Board of Trustees of Lowell General Hospital and was also a Lowell General Hospital Corporator in 2015. He was a dedicated member of several esteemed medical associations, including the American Medical Association and the Massachusetts Medical Society. Additionally, he actively participated in the American Diabetes Association and was a committed contributor to numerous medical committees throughout his illustrious career. Dr. Meltsakos leaves behind a legacy of love for people and the community, touching many lives through the extra care and compassion he provided. Any personal plans, activities, vacations, and even sleep, took a back seat the moment a patient, friend or family member was in need. His family will make every attempt to continue Dr. Meltsakoss legacy, practice and his unparalleled patient advocacy. Dr. Meltsakos attended Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where he served on the Parish Council for many years. He also lent his medical expertise as the medical advisor for the Hellenic American Academy and was a proud member of the AHEPA Hellas Chapter 102 in Lowell, Massachusetts. Beyond his professional accomplishments, George had a deep passion for music, dancing, and cherished spending time with his family and friends. His zest for life led him to frequent travels to his vacation home in Clearwater, Florida, and to his beloved Greece, where he spent precious time with loved ones. In addition to his loving wife, Ritsa, Dr. Meltsakos is survived by his sons, Panagiotis and Evangelos, his mother, Chrisoula Meltsakos, his brother, Paul Meltsakos and his wife, Kathleen (Dole) Meltsakos, as well as his nephew, Christopher Meltsakos and his wife Norma, and his niece, Selena Meltsakos. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins in Haverhill, MA and in Greece. He was preceded in death by his father, Panagiotis Meltsakos. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, October 18th from 3pm to 7pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10am at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., Lowell. KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will be held privately.
