CHELMSFORD – Elizabeth A. (Glod) Ferrio, age 80, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at D’Youville Senior Care, Lowell on Sunday, September 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Elizabeth (“Beth”) was born in Woonsocket, RI on March 15, 1946, and was the daughter of the late Albert and Vera (Cherwinski) Glod. She graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1963 but later relocated to South County to raise her two children.
She spent her early career helping others, working at the Ladd School in Exeter with disabled children and then volunteering at the Sympatico Center in Wakefield to support divorced mothers with emotional problems. While she was completing her degrees in medical laboratory technology from CCRI in 1981 and 1986 (eventually finishing 2nd in a class of 14), she still found the time to volunteer at high schools to promote their ChemTec program and work performing lab tests for doctors at Kent County Hospital in Warwick.
At the end of the decade, Beth relocated to Chelmsford, MA to pursue a new career, first making gelatin for the photographic film used by Eastman Kodak in Peabody, then testing banking software for Politzer & Haney in Newtonville.
During her retirement years, Beth returned to her first love of helping others by putting her energies into the local chapter of the weight-loss group TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). Her selfless devotion to the group earned her an award for perfect attendance, and her successful achievement of her weight-loss goals earned her KOPS status (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) to help inspire and encourage other club members to achieve their goals.
Beth is survived by her loving son Michael; her other loving son Gary, his wife Annette, and her adored and adoring granddaughter Kaylin; and her loving sister Debra L. Glod.
She was preceded in death by her former husband and parent of her children, Raymond L. Ferrio, as well as both of her parents.
Beth did not wish to leave behind a site for her loved ones to mourn her loss, so the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. The gathering will be private.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests privacy during this time.
