Elizabeth 'Barbara' Greenwood Obituary (1927 - 2018)

CHELMSFORD- Elizabeth "Barbara" (Conway) Greenwood, age 90, a longtime resident of Chelmsford and former resident of Billerica, passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 17, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford. She was the beloved wife of the late Russell L. Greenwood who died in 1982. Barbara was born in Billerica on October 18, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bessie (Gray) Conway. She was a graduate of Howe High School in Billerica, class of 1945. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Lowell Teacher's College in 1949. Prior to her retirement, Barbara was employed for many years as a first grade teacher at the Talbot School in N. Billerica and then as a substitute teacher for the Chelmsford School System. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland. Her most treasured time was time spent in the company of her loving family, especially her adoring grandchildren. Barbara is survived by her three children, Susan O'Brien of Dracut, Barbara Carano and her husband Michael of Methuen, and Russell "Rusty" Greenwood of Londonderry, NH; four grandchildren, David O'Brien of Dracut, Courtney Arnold and her husband Nick of Dracut, Thomas O'Brien and his fiance Marina Cordero of Chelmsford, and Russell Greenwood of Londonderry, NH; one great grand-daughter Arrianna Arnold; a brother, John "Jack" Conway and his wife Deanna of Billerica; a sister, Patricia Kilian and her husband Paul of Westford; sister-in-law Nancy Butler of Chelmsford; two brothers-in-law, Ronald Greenwood and his wife Ann Marie of Chelmsford and Leonard Haines of Billerica. Barbara is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She was also the sister of the late Thomas "Hap" Conway, Mary "Charlotte" Harvey, Alice Haines; and sister-in-law of the late Constance Conway, Eileen Fletcher, Donald Butler, Raymond and Mildred Greenwood, Raymond "Bo" and Constance Pickard. Barbara's family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful, loving, and caring staff at Sunny Acres Nursing Home, especially Shirley Ananda. Visitation will be held at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford on Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, at 11 o'clock at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH. Interment to follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Chelmsford.
