Elrene I. Freeman Obituary (1916 - 2011)

Loving Mother, Nan and Great Grandmother, 95 WINDHAM, NH Elrene I. (Manning) Freeman, 95, of Windham, NH and formerly of Chelmsford, MA passed away peacefully at Elliot Hospital on December 17, 2011. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond S. Freeman who passed away on December 17, 1994. They were married for 54 years. She was born in Lowell on September 10, 1916, the daughter of the late Frank and Esther (Caddell) Manning. She was educated in the Lowell School System. Before to retiring, Elrene worked for the Chelmsford School System for many years. Prior to that she was employed by the Lowell Institution for Savings Bank. Following her retirement, Elrene volunteered at St. Josephs Hospital, Nashua, N.H. in the Breast Healthcare Clinic for over 15 years. In her spare time she was an active member of SAGE. Elrene also enjoyed arts and crafts. Throughout her life she authored numerous poems, entertained her family and friends with her piano, organ and harmonica playing, and was a true friend to all who knew her. When Elrene was a young woman she taught herself morse code and became a HAM radio operator. Elrene lived life to the fullest and she treasured her family and friends. Elrene is survived by her sons David R. and his wife Ruth (Silcox) Freeman of Lowell and James B. and his wife Jeanmarie (Irvin) Freeman of Lowell. 7 grandchildren, Kristin (Freeman) Perrotta and her husband Emmanuelle of San Franciso, CA, Katrina Freeman of Lowell, John Freeman and his wife Gabrielle of Seattle Washington, Jamie (Freeman) Fazio and her husband Vincent of Salem, NH, Kayleigh, Holly and Timothy MacLean, Jr of Lowell, 3 great-grandchildren, Sophia and Mackensey Fazio and Vincenzo Perrotta. Many nieces and nephews and several close friends. She was also the sister of the late Esther (Manning) Wilson and the sister-in-law of the late James Wilson, Dorothy Pelletier, Lena Crowell, Lorretta McCarthy, Peggy Jones, Ernest, Clarence, Austin and Edward Freeman. She was also the mother of the late Douglas Freeman. Elrenes family would like to express their appreciation for all the staff on the Emergency Room Department and the Fuller Unit at Elliot Hospital for their compassion and care during her last days. In addition, the family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Susan and Neil Pike and the staff at the Grace House of Windham where Elrene resided for the last several years. The warmth and sincerity of the Grace House enabled Elrene to be happy and privileged to call Grace House her home. Friends may call at BLAKE FUNERAL HOME 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD, on Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM. Her Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday at 9 AM followed by her Funeral Service at 10 AM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Billerica Rd., Chelmsford. Interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
