Eric W. Berndt Obituary (1930 - 2015)

CHELMSFORD Eric William Berndt, age 85, a longtime resident of Chelmsford died Friday, July 24, 2015 at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband for 34 years of Patricia (Leahy) Berndt and the husband of the late Edith Berndt who died in 1979. He was born in Passaic, NJ on March 24, 1930 and was the son of the late Eric F. and Anna (Wiesner) Berndt. He was raised in Teaneck, NJ and was a graduate of Teaneck High School. Eric served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 23 years as the Director of Baking Operations for Stop & Shop Supermarket Company in Quincy. Earlier in life he worked for many years as a baker. Eric practiced the Bah'i faith and tried to live according to their teachings. His greatest joy came from spending time in the company of his family. He also enjoyed watching sports and attending his sons sporting events when they were young. In addition to his wife, Eric is survived by his sons, John, Jim (Wife Mara), and David; four grandchildren, Michelle (Husband William), Christen (Husband Danny), Erica, and Robby; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Zachary; a brother Edward Berndt (Wife Cathy); and a sister, Caroline Berndt. Brother in Laws, Jack Leahy (Wife Pat), Stephen Leahy (Wife Nancy), Bob Leahy (Wife Deb), Philip Leahy (Wife Katia and Daughter Stephanie). Nieces and Nephews, Christen (Husband Tim and Son James), Deborah (Husband Mark, kids Samantha and James), Jennifer (Husband John, Kids CJ and Bella), Allison Leahy (Fiance Marcos Rodriguez), Stephanie (Husband Tim, Kids Connor and Aubrey), Elizabeth Leahy (Brian Shirley), Carolyn Leahy (Mario Velez). It being his request, there will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend his Graveside Service on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 1:30 pm at Pine Ridge Cemetery, 130 Billerica Road in Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Erics name to the charity of ones choice.
