Fanny Kakunda Mushiya Obituary (1980 - 2023)

Fanny Kakunda Mushiya was born on January 7, 1980 in the province of Kananga, Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the union of the late Papa Kalambay Wabukeba and late Mama Mushiya Kakunda Bertine. She was the seventh of eleven children which comprised of six brothers and five sisters. Fanny attended school in the province of Kananga, Democratic Republic of the Congo where she obtained her high school diploma. From an early age, Fanny loved fashion design. She therefore attended a School of Fashion Design and later added another passion ofhers which was hair-dressing. She was really good at both. It was in the Congo where Fanny met her husband to be, Papa Dede Mutumbo. After dating for a couple of years, the couple moved to South Africa where they got married in 2006. They were blessed with their first child, Letithia and second, Kayembe before moving to Zimbabwe where they had their third child, David. The family later moved to the United States in April of 2017 where they had their fourth child, Dede. Together, Mama Fanny and Papa Dede were raising four smart and beautiful children: Letithia Mutumbo, Kayembe Doris Mutumbo, David Mutumbo and Dede Mutumbo. Fanny was a committed Christian and loved to serve the Lord through the ministry of singing. This passion for music began at an early age in Africa where she sang in multiple musical groups everywhere she lived. When she and her family relocated to the United States in 2017, she immediately became a member of Christ Jubilee, joined the Praise Team and even attended a music class for keyboard players. Her and Church remember her for the famous puff puffs. she also loved to pray and faithfully believed and trusted God as the solution to all problems. Mama Fanny was a areat adviser to many and a mediator to others in times of conflicts. Mama Fanny was a great wife and mother and taught her children the values of a faith anchored in God. Her life exhibited respect, love, patience, hard work and what it means to serve the lord whole-heartedly. Most importantly, Fanny, through her life, also demonstrated to those outside of her family what it means to love your brother, sister or anyone no matter the race, ethnicity, social status. For example, whenever customers for whom she sewed came to pick up their clothes, she greeted them with a warm plate of her famous cassava leaves with either fish, meat or chicken and fufu. Fanny, the wife, mother, sister, friend and confidante touched so many people everywhere she went until her sudden death in the early morning hours of Monday, April 24, 2023. We will forever love you, Fanny, and pray God's greatest comfort upon your husband, children and loved ones. Your transition is not an accident, but an appointment with your Father, the final resting place for all believers. We know you are not dead, out very much alive with the Almighty Father.
