Florence Coleman Montana passed away peacefully at the age of 101 in Lowell, MA on August 19th, 2026.
She was born on June 9, 1925 in Freeport, New York, the youngest of the three Vanella sisters, daughters of Sadie and Robert Vanella. She graduated from Freeport High School, where she was a cheerleader, and married John Joseph Coleman, also of Freeport, on April 22, 1950. They raised their four children - Nancy, Judy, James and Gail in Massapequa, New York. Florence was a devoted and loving wife and mother and a talented homemaker, who built a beautiful, warm, and loving home for her family.
Florence and John retired to Sunapee, New Hampshire, where they enjoyed living on Perkins Pond until John’s passing in 1992. She later married Kenneth Montana of Sunapee. After Ken’s passing in 2001, she remained in Sunapee until 2004, when she moved to be closer to family in Chelmsford, MA.
If you were fortunate enough to know Flo, you know she cherished the simple things in life - music, dancing, golf, quilting, sewing, and crafts of all kinds. You probably enjoyed one of her delicious meals (she could certainly cook!), and you most likely came to appreciate her forthrightness and social nature.
She was predeceased by her sisters Palma Cama and Virginia Sarrapede; and her daughter Judy. She is survived and will be missed by her children and their partners Nancy and Joseph Jordan (RI), Jim Coleman and Michelle Jean (MA), Gail and Jim Kruglak (NH) as well as her five grandchildren Alexa, Dan, Maggie, Joe and Hannah. She was the proud great grandmother of four - Ivy, Adeline, Clara and Winona - with another on the way. She leaves behind a wide circle of friends, acquaintances and extended family who will miss and remember her dearly.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 12pm -2pm at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. Her funeral service and interment were held privately. In lieu of flowers, please spend time with those you cherish and make new memories.
