Kenneth Charles Brown Obituary (1940 - 2013)

CHELMSFORD Kenneth Charles Brown, 73, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, died Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Lowell General Hospital after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Jane Rodgers. He was born in Mitchell, SD on January 19, 1940 and was a son of the late Lloyd Kenneth and Sarah (Fraser) Brown. Ken grew up in South Dakota and was a 1958 graduate of Gettysburg High School and received a degree in Psychology from South Dakota State University in 1962. Prior to his retirement, Ken was employed by the United States Public Health Services where he was the Division Director for HRSA and Community Health Centers in New England. Earlier in his career he also worked for the Elder Service Plan at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center and was Chief Operating Officer at the Lowell Community Health Center. Ken was a proud member of the Masonic Order of North Star Lodge AF&AM in Ashland, MA, and the National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 360. He spent many years as a coach for both the Milford Youth Baseball and Youth Hockey Leagues. In recent years he was a dedicated volunteer at Chelmsford Crossing Assisted Living Facility. Ken enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, and playing the lottery. In addition to his loving wife, Ken is survived by his children; John F. Brown and his wife Janyce of Jupiter, FL, and Jay K. Brown and his wife Cynthia of Milford, six grandchildren; Tyler, Davis, Sarah, Alyssa, Hannah, and Katie, a sister Judy McDonald of Springfield, MO and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Bonnie Witham. Memorial visitation will take place at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm followed by a Memorial Service at 7 pm. Interment will be private.
