Mafalda A. 'Muffy' Paredes

Mafalda A. "Muffy" (Catania) Paredes, 92, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 14, 2017 at the Life Care Center of Acton following a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Casiano Sonny Paredes, Jr. who predeceased her in 1999.

Born in Charlestown on December 1, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Giuseppe and Anna (Gianelli) Catania.

Muffy enjoyed spending time with her family and hosted often-raucous family cook-outs, gatherings, and holiday celebrations at her home. Being at the beach brought her great enjoyment, especially Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester where she spent every summer since first experiencing it in the mid 50s. When she wasnt at the beach, she took pride in creating and maintaining her beautiful gardens and well-landscaped yard. Watching and studying the varieties of birds that her landscape attracted was an added bonus. On Halloween, Muffy was always excited to be the house that gave out the "Big" candy bars. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Some of the many high points of Muffys 52 years of marriage to Sonny were the many spectacular vacations they spent in Hawaii; exploring its wonders, visiting family, and attending weddings.
Muffy is survived by her children and their significant others, Juan and Eileen Paredes of New Durham, NH, Lisa and Peter Bersani of Milford, NH, Carla Brown of Bedford, MA, David Paredes and Tina Picazio of Chelmsford; her grandchildren, Alison Paredes, Sara McMann, Micheal Espinola, Jr., Britny Bersani, Amanda Brown, Alyssa Brown, Nathaniel Brown, III, David Nicholas Paredes, Noah Paredes and Tristan Paredes; a brother, Vincent Catania and his girlfriend Doris of Billerica; a sister-in-law, Jill Paredes of Weymouth; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was the sister of the late William Catania, Guido Catania, Joseph Catania, Theresa Bell, Elena Bork, Yolanda Donovan.

Visitation will be held on Thursday December 21, 2017 from 9 until 10:30am in the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM in St. Mary Church, 25 North Road, CHELMSFORD. Interment will then take place in Pine Ridge Cemetery, CHELMSFORD.
